Morning Prayer
Each day at St. Joseph School, the day begins with a prayer, based on our virtue of the year, over the PA system. Each student stands and prays with the whole school community and special intentions my be requested by individual students for a special person or reason.
Monthly Liturgies
Each month, a class is responsible for preparing a Liturgy. Mass takes place at 9AM on the First Friday of each month. Teachers meet with Monsignor to develop a them and students are given an active role in the Call to Worship, the readings, the Universal Prayer and the Presentation of Gifts. Students in grades One to Eight attend Mass, with the Kindergarten joining us in January. When the Kindergarten joins us at our Liturgy, they are paired with an eighth grade "buddy".
Prayer Services
Prayer Services are prepared on a monthly basis by each class. Themes correspond to the time of year. They may be All Saints Day, Thanksgiving, beginning the school year, celebrating a saint or the Blessed Mother, etc. During Catholic Schools Week, the Prayer Service is prepared by our eighth grade with their Kindergarten "buddies".
Service Projects
Buddy groups work together to find community organizations that need our help. These projects give our students the opportunity to put their faith in action by helping to raise money and donating their time to worthy causes. Buddy groups are as follows:
PK and 7th Grade
Kindergarten and 8th Grade
1st Grade and 5th Grade
2nd Grade and 4th Grade
3rd Grade and 6th Grade
Last year's organizations included The Ronald McDonald House, Bobbi and the Strays, Life Center of Long Island, Horseability and The Steven Tiller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
